What are reflective vests?

A reflective vest is a kind of sleeveless jacket made of brightly colored textiles to increase visibility. In the market you can find different types of reflective vests, you can even find them with built-in airbag to protect the rider in case of falls and accidents.  

What is the purpose of a reflective vest

The function of the motorcycle reflective vest is to make the motorcyclist more visible to other drivers in order to prevent road accidents. 

Motorcyclists' clothing has always been dark, usually black. This makes it difficult for the motorcyclist to be visible to other drivers on the road, especially at night. 

To avoid accidents, it is recommended that motorcyclists wear a reflective vest over their motorcycle jackets. These garments are brightly colored, such as yellow, and become even more visible when illuminated by car headlights. 

Is it mandatory to wear a reflective vest on a motorcycle?

In Spain, since 2004, the use of reflective vests has been mandatory as a measure to prevent traffic accidents. However, the General Traffic Regulations refer to drivers of buses and other passenger vehicles, goods carriers, mixed vehicles, non-agricultural vehicles and auxiliary personnel of these transports, among others. 

As you may have noticed, nowhere in the regulation does it specify that motorcyclists must use a reflective vest. However, although its use is not mandatory, in Motopasión Store we do recommend our customers to use a reflective vest, as it is a very useful tool to prevent unfortunate accidents on the road.
