Oakley

Oakley is a brand that needs no introduction, who doesn't know Oakley eyewear? This company was founded in North America in 1975 and although it is well known for making sports eyewear, Oakley manufactures other accessories and complements such as clothing, backpacks, watches and footwear. 

Oakley began in the garage of its founder, James Jannard, with an investment of $300. And the name Oakley comes from none other than the name of Jannard's pet at the time, an English Setter. 

Few know that James Jannard began marketing his brand at motocross events, where he would park his car and display his products in the trunk of it. Did you know that? 

If you didn't know this will surprise you even more. The first thing Oakley released were motorcycle grips, which were different from the rest because they were made of a material patented by Jannard, known as 'Unobtainium'.  

After making grips, the brand also began to manufacture license plates, gloves, elbow pads, and goggles for motocross and BMX. Today, the 'Unobtainium' material is used to make Oakley eyewear temple covers and nose bridges. 

Oakley's debut in the sports eyewear world came in 1980, when it launched its first Oakley motorcycle eyewear model called "O-Frame". This model became an icon of the brand and is responsible for much of its success. 

Greg LeMond, the three-time Tour de France winning cyclist, was the first athlete to be sponsored by Oakley. LeMond wore Oakley sunglasses in the 1984 competition and since then the brand has sponsored many cycling stars, including Lance Armstrong. 

Today Oakley brand products are the benchmark for design, technology and high quality. Its sports eyewear continues to dominate the market due to its durability and resistance. However, there are many athletes who prefer these glasses because they do not get dirty easily, and this allows them to have a clear vision at all times.
